We recently restored a very old parquet floor in Doncaster that had been completely hidden under rubble and debris.

Once cleared, the original timber blocks were revealed but were heavily worn, uneven and damaged from years of neglect.

Older parquet floors require careful assessment before sanding, as excessive removal can permanently affect the pattern and lifespan of the floor.

The Sanding Process

Using professional dust-controlled sanding equipment, we carefully levelled the surface and removed the old finish. Particular attention was given to preserving the block pattern and ensuring a smooth, even result across the entire floor.

Parquet restoration requires precision and experience, especially with older installations where the adhesive and subfloor may also need consideration.

Gap Filling & Surface Preparation

After the initial sanding stages, we carried out a full gap filling process.

We use a specialist professional-grade resin mixed with fine sanding dust collected directly from the floor itself. This creates a colour-matched filler that blends naturally with the surrounding timber.

The resin and dust mixture is worked carefully into joints, small gaps and minor surface imperfections. Once cured, the floor is sanded again to leave a smooth, seamless surface ready for finishing.

This process improves the overall appearance, reduces visible gaps and helps create a cleaner, more uniform final result — particularly important with older parquet floors.

Ultra Matte Lacquer Finish

Once prepared, the floor was sealed using a durable ultra matte lacquer system.

This finish provides:

  • A natural, modern appearance

  • Excellent durability

  • Long-term protection

  • Easy ongoing maintenance

The final result completely transformed the space while maintaining the character of the original parquet blocks.
