Parquet Floor Restoration in Brigg After 30 Years Under Carpet
This parquet floor in Brigg had been hidden beneath carpet for around 30 years. Once the carpet was lifted, the herringbone blocks were still in good condtion, but the surface was dark, heavily worn and marked.

Bringing the parquet back
After lifting the carpet, I checked the parquet and planned the sanding to suit its condition. I worked through the floor in stages, using a coarser abrasive first to remove the old, worn surface, then progressively finer grits to smooth the oak. Dust-controlled equipment helped capture dust as I sanded, and I worked carefully along the edges and into the corners. I then used a planetary sander to refine the surface and help leave an even finish across the blocks. After vacuuming and preparing the floor, I applied a hard-wearing ceramic lacquer for protection.

Finished with ceramic lacquer
Once the sanding was complete, I applied a hard-wearing ceramic lacquer to protect the parquet for everyday use. The finished floor has a much lighter, cleaner appearance, and its original pattern is visible again.

The floor had spent decades out of sight, but it did not need to stay under a carpet. If you have parquet or another wood floor in Brigg that you think may be worth restoring, I can take a look and advise.
