Teak Parquet Floor Sanding in Scunthorpe | Oiled Finish

Location

Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire.

Project type

Parquet Floor Sanding & Restoration

The Condition of the Floor

This teak parquet floor in a property in Scunthorpe had become worn over time, with the existing surface finish no longer providing adequate protection. The parquet blocks had lost their depth of colour and the floor appeared dull and uneven in places.

Before restoration began, the condition of the parquet blocks and subfloor stability were carefully assessed to ensure the floor was suitable for sanding.

The Sanding Process

Using professional dust-controlled sanding equipment, the existing finish was removed through multiple abrasive stages to level the surface and restore clarity to the teak blocks. Particular attention was given to the direction and pattern of the parquet to preserve its character and achieve a consistent finish across the entire floor.
Edges and perimeter areas were carefully blended to ensure a seamless result.

The Finish Applied

Once fully prepared, a premium hardwax oil finish was applied to enhance the natural tone of the teak while providing durable, long-lasting protection. Hardwax oil penetrates into the wood fibres as well as forming a protective surface layer, allowing the parquet to retain a natural appearance with a low, balanced sheen.
This finish offers excellent durability while remaining easy to maintain and refresh in the future if required.

The Finished Result

The restored teak parquet floor now has renewed depth of colour and a clean, even surface that highlights the natural grain of the timber. Professional sanding and hardwax oil finishing has brought warmth and character back into the room while protecting the floor for everyday use.

The Floor Condition

This oak floor in Grimsby had previously been treated with a dark Danish oil, which had built up over time and significantly darkened the natural colour of the wood. The finish had become uneven in places, leaving the floor looking dull and tired.

Sanding & Preparation

To restore the floor properly, a full sanding process was carried out using professional dust-controlled equipment. The old finish was carefully removed using a progressive sanding sequence to bring the timber back to a clean, even surface. Edges and corners were detailed to ensure a consistent finish across the entire floor.

The Finished Result

Once prepared, the floor was finished using a high-quality hardwax oil. This provided a much lighter, more natural appearance while enhancing the grain of the wood and offering durable, long-lasting protection.
