The Condition of the Floor

This engineered oak floor in a residential property in Scunthorpe had become worn over time, with the original finish no longer offering adequate protection. Surface scratches and general dullness had developed, leaving the timber looking tired and uneven.

The Sanding Process

Using professional dust-controlled sanding equipment, the engineered oak floor was sanded through multiple abrasive stages to remove the worn finish and surface imperfections. Each pass was carried out carefully to preserve the integrity of the engineered wear layer.

Minor gaps and imperfections were filled using a specialist resin mixed with fine sanding dust collected from the floor itself. This creates a colour-matched, seamless appearance once sealed.
As engineered flooring has a controlled wear layer, the floor was carefully assessed before work began to ensure it could be safely re-sanded without compromising its structure.
The Finish Applied
Once fully prepared, a premium hardwax oil finish was applied to enhance the natural character of the engineered oak while providing durable, long-lasting protection. Hardwax oil penetrates into the wood as well as forming a protective surface layer, allowing the floor to maintain a natural, low-sheen appearance.
This type of finish is ideal for residential properties as it offers strong resistance to everyday wear while remaining easy to maintain and refresh in the future if required.

The Finished Result

The completed floor now has a clean, even appearance with enhanced depth of tone and restored protection. The hardwax oil finish highlights the natural grain of the engineered oak while providing a smooth, durable surface suitable for everyday use.
The transformation has brought warmth and character back into the space, giving the room a refreshed and long-lasting finish.

The Floor Condition

This oak floor in Grimsby had previously been treated with a dark Danish oil, which had built up over time and significantly darkened the natural colour of the wood. The finish had become uneven in places, leaving the floor looking dull and tired.

Sanding & Preparation

To restore the floor properly, a full sanding process was carried out using professional dust-controlled equipment. The old finish was carefully removed using a progressive sanding sequence to bring the timber back to a clean, even surface. Edges and corners were detailed to ensure a consistent finish across the entire floor.

The Finished Result

Once prepared, the floor was finished using a high-quality hardwax oil. This provided a much lighter, more natural appearance while enhancing the grain of the wood and offering durable, long-lasting protection.
